Pleasing Sights and Pleasing Sounds: Linkin Park Fan Tribute Edition

I'm dearly sorry to all my readers to have been gone so long. It's been a while since I last published a blog post. I finished my last semester in college and now I'm standing at the crossroads between being a young adult and a full fledged grown adult. It's pretty scary to be honest. As of now my focus is on securing a job and saving money while living at home with family. My thoughts are on how I will branch out in the world and truly start living. In entering this new chapter in my life I'm centering my thoughts on homesteading, budgeting, being thrifty, and practicing a somewhat minimalist and zero waste living lifestyle. In this new chapter I'm reevaluating where my finances, work ethics, and where I place my time and efforts into. So look forward to seeing blog posts on these topics.

Moving On to Today's Post:

My tribute to the late Chester Bennington, lead singer of my childhood favorite rock band Linkin Park. Linkin Park was my first ever taste of rock music in middle school and the first music group I could claim as my own. Linkin Park was not music that my parents or grandparents introduced me to, this band was for me and my ears, my emotions, and my style. My family didn't understand it and my attraction to the music, but my soul could understand it. Their music was the refuge for my sadness and my feelings of angst. Their music was my way of overcoming my shyness and befriending others who shared a mutual taste in music. Their music was the gateway band that led me to truly becoming a music fiend. It is truly saddening to see how Chester's haunting and heartfelt vocals comforted me and many other fans, but could not save him in the end. This band saved me from my depression and utter feelings of loneliness in my childhood and teenage years. Now as an adult almost 15 years later I still am in love with their music. I'm truly sorry I never was able to see Linkin Park live in concert. May there music live on forever and may Chester Bennington rest in peace!

I am both a lover of music and a lover of film. Three things I pay most attention to in a film, besides the plot and the actors, are the directors, the cinematography and the soundtrack. Films with marvelous soundtracks are golden to me. So here are a few of my favorite film soundtracks.

Pleasing Sights and Pleasing Sounds: Comfort Songs

The only thing that comes as possibly close to the wonderful delights of comfort food is comfort music. Comfort music is similar to comfort food in a sense of being the therapy needed for the heart and mind. The soul being soothed and when you hear the music you find yourself at a gradual ease. One of the main characteristics of comfort music is the positive feeling of belonging. Every time I listen to any of these songs I immediately feel at ease and in my own inner sanctuary. At times I even cry a little but I think that's just the music fiend in me. So please enjoy my little playlist of comfort music.

                                         

Pleasing Sights and Pleasing Sounds: Foreign Edition

I'm a lover of good music, I mean really good music. Passionate music resonates something deep within me. A differing language has never stopped me from appreciating wonderful music. In fact every language has its own way of producing captivating music. Listening to foreign music outside of your own is appreciating music in its totality.You moving beyond just the lyrics and focusing on the soothing or commanding voice, the style and fusion of instruments, the rhythm and flow of the song, and the heart and soul of the music. I do not need to hear a song in English to fall in love with good music. Good music transcends language barriers and evokes a profound feeling in the heart of the listener. Truly good music will carry you you places whether or not you understand the lyrics. If you are only listening to music in your mother tongue you are missing out and are engaging in a limited musical perspective! 

That Alternative Black Girl

To the gamer Black girls who love playing an intense games of the Walking Dead, Mortal Kombat, and the Legend of Selda I see you.
To the Black girls who dance and jam to alternative music, bounces her head to Bloc Party, sings along to Sia, and dances to electronic dance music circa 90s cue Enigma, I see you.
To the Black girls who love all things gardening in her house building a homestead, on her apartment balcony, or on her back porch area of her trailer. She delights in pickling food,  preserving them in jellies and sugars, and selling them bottled in mason jars in the farmer market, I see you.
To the Black girl learning something other than French or Spanish like Arabic, Swahili, or Chinese, because well... there are many more languages outside of English, Spanish, and French okay...I see you and salute you.
To the Black girl who was a badass skater girl well before Avril Lavigne made it popular in her song, I see you and I wish you could teach me how to skate.
To the Black girl who's a free spirit lighting the soy candles in her bedroom and reading poetry books by Rumi and Pablo Neruda, I see you and I enjoy reading my poetry early in the morning.
To the Black girl who's fond of kpop and can sing all the words to Wonder Girls "So Hot" with a slight Korean accent, I see and hear you and will sing right along with you.
To the Black girl who who flirts with any nice boy who tickles her fancy, dates whomever she wants, and marries her hearts love because its in her best interest to do so, I see you. I see you and applaud you for being in your own self interest and not in the interest of others... I see you my sister and I welcome you with open arms and an open heart of love.

I take joy in listening to pleasing music. Pleasing music with a nice melody, a superior sound, instruments harmonizing well, and lovely voices that belt a gracious tune. However, what I take joy in the most are love songs, especially love songs presenting feminine Black women as the leading love interest. :)
